Whether you're traveling, cooking a foreign recipe or reading a technical specification, unit conversion is a daily mental exercise. Although our metric system is decimal, the imperial system follows different rules.

1. Lengths: From Meter to Inch

The most common conversion concerns distance. The basic unit of the imperial system is the inch.

1 inch=2.54 cm1\text{ inch} = 2.54\text{ cm}

To convert feet (ftft) to meters (mm), we use the following factor:

1 ft=0.3048 m1\text{ ft} = 0.3048\text{ m}

2. Temperatures: Celsius vs Fahrenheit

Unlike distances, temperature conversion is not a simple multiplication because the zero point is different (0°C corresponds to 32°F).

To convert from Celsius (°C) to Fahrenheit (°F): T(°F)=T(°C)×95+32T_{(°F)} = T_{(°C)} \times \frac{9}{5} + 32

For the reverse operation: T(°C)=(T(°F)32)×59T_{(°C)} = (T_{(°F)} - 32) \times \frac{5}{9}

3. Why are Conversion Factors Precise?

In the scientific and industrial world, a conversion error can have serious consequences. This is why conversion factors are defined by rigorous international standards.

By using digital tools, you eliminate the risk of human error in these repetitive calculations.
