How to Calculate Area?
Area calculation is essential for many projects: buying paint, laying tiles, estimating the price of real estate or simply knowing the size of a room. Our calculator allows you to easily calculate the area of any geometric shape.
Calculation Formulas
Rectangle / Carré
Surface = Longueur × Largeur
Cercle
Surface = π × Rayon²
Triangle
Surface = (Base × Hauteur) / 2
Common Use Cases
- Calculate the living area of an apartment
- Estimate the amount of paint or tiles needed
- Measure the area of land or garden
- Verify the stated area of real estate
Frequently Asked Questions
For an L-shaped room, divide it into two rectangles, calculate the area of each rectangle separately, then add them together. Our tool allows you to add multiple rooms to automatically get the total.
Square feet (sq ft) measures an area (length × width), while linear feet measures only a length. For example, for baseboards, you use linear feet; for flooring, you use square feet.
First calculate the wall areas (height × length of each wall), then add them up. Subtract openings (doors, windows). Generally, 1 gallon of paint covers 350-400 sq ft with two coats. Don't forget the ceiling if you're painting it!
To convert: 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft, so divide your sq ft by 43,560. For square meters: 1 m² = 10.764 sq ft, so divide your sq ft by 10.764. For example, a 5,000 sq ft lot = 0.11 acres or 464 m².
